ClassWallet for CPR & Fire Safety in Georgia -CCS) Health and Safety Grant

by | Jun 2, 2023

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is awarding the Child Care Services (CCS) Health and Safety Grant to all open, operating, and licensed Child Care Learning Centers (CCLCs) and Family Child Care Learning Homes (FCCLHs) who are currently serving children. This is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act which provided a total of $80 million to qualifying facilities in Georgia.

Qualifying facilities are awarded grants ranging from $5,000 – $40,000 depending on capacity that can be spent with qualifying vendors via ClassWallet. Since the CCS grant is for Health & Safety it must be used on qualified items or services. Here is a complete list of what is allowed and not allowed to purchase though the CCS grant.

One of those items is CPR & First Aid and Fire Safety Training, as long as it is through an approved vendor. As one of the only Safety Training ClassWallet vendors, First Response can train and certify your staff through your ClassWallet budget. Looking for Ways to Use Up Your ClassWallet Funds from the Child Care Services (CCS) Health and Safety Grant?

For many centers, the Health and Safety Grant funds in ClassWallet will expire on May 31, 2024. Remember, it’s a case of “use it or lose it!”

If you are exploring options to use your funds, here are some suggestions to consider:

  • Prepaid Training: Purchase a prepaid block of training for CPR, First Aid, or Fire Safety for your staff. Use ClassWallet to pay for the training now and use it in the future as needed.
  • First Aid Kits and Supplies: It’s a great opportunity to update the first aid kits in your classrooms. Additionally, explore “Stop the Bleed” supplies like tourniquets.
  • AED and AED Supplies: Have you thought about having an AED at your center? Statistics show that 7,037 children die from cardiac arrest annually. Considering the significant time children spend in school each year, it’s crucial for child care centers to have easily accessible AEDs. If you already have an AED, it’s a good time to make sure your pads are in date and your battery is good.
