Does blended online CPR and First Aid Meet Bright From the Start guidelines?

Bright from the Start (BFTS) accepts BLENDED training, but they do NOT accept Online-only training.
Practicing CPR Skills on the manikins is critical to being able to perform them in an emergency. That’s why BFTS requires hands-on practice and we include a hands-on skills check for our blended online courses

Does First Response have an online Fire Safety option?

Yes, our online fire safety class is an instructor-led class via zoom. It meets all the same requirements as an in-person class but can be done from the comfort and safety of your home or office.

You can sign up for one yourself or sign up your entire staff. To sign up and see the available dates click here.

When do I get my (Or my team’s) Certification Card?

Online CPR & First Aid

A temporary card is emailed to you as soon as you complete the test. You will receive your permanent card at your skills check.

Fire Safety Certificates

These are issued online within a few hours of the class. You can print your certificate here.

CPR & First Aid for Child Care or Senior Care Professionals

Cards are issued at the class. ASHI accredited courses. (e.g. CPR & AED) These nationally accredited cards are issued through ASHI. They will be emailed upon completion of the course and receipt of payment. They are normally issued within 2-3 days of the class but may take longer if your facility has requested to be invoiced for the training.

I lost my card. What do I do?

No worries!

For Fire Safety, you can re-print your certificate here. Just enter your last name followed by a comma, then a space, then your first name. Double last names can be tricky. So if your name is John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, it might be under “Jingleheimer” or it might be under “Schmidt”. If you can’t find it one way, try the other.

For CPR & First Aid, we will need to verify your attendance on the roster. To do so, we need your name, the facility where you attended training, the approximate date of the training, and your email address.
Click here to provide the information needed.
If you don’t remember all the details, put what you do remember in the notes. If you remember you had the funny, bald guy for an instructor, tell us that. If you know you took it at a church in Macon on a Saturday in February, tell us that. The more details we have, the more likely it is that we can find you.

How long does the class last?

CPR & First Aid usually takes about 3 hours.

Fire Safety usually takes about 3 hours.

Does BLS meet the training requirements for CNAs?

BLS is not recommended for CNAs.

Because BLS is designed for licensed health care professionals, it does NOT include First Aid.    CNAs are required to complete First Aid training, so BLS alone does not meet their requirements.

Online Classes

We offer 2 types of online classes. With either option, you will do the coursework online, followed by an in-person skills check for CPR. Being able to practice the CPR skills on a manikin is important for learning. Hands-on practice is required by Bright from the Start and SC Endeavors for child care professionals, and DSS/DFCS for foster parents.

“Live Learning” is an instructor-led class via zoom. Most classes have two instructors available to answer questions and assist with technical issues. This is most like an in-person class, since the instructors can adapt the material to the audience. These are held at specific times.

“Self-Paced” can be done at any time, at your own speed. You can start and stop as needed. It’s just you and the computer. This is a good option if the times for the Live Learning classes don’t work for your schedule. For the best user experience, you’ll need a computer or tablet. It’s difficult to do on a phone.

  • Fire Safety for Care Givers (Live Learning)
  • Blended ASHI CPR, AED and Pediatric First Aid (Self-Paced)

CPR, First Aid, and AED

This class is very similar to our CPR and First Aid course, but the main addition is the hands-on experience with the AED. Using an AED for someone in cardiac arrest in the first few minutes will triple the chance of recovery. So having hands-on experiences is vital.

This class is required if you have an AED on-site for any “Expected Users” that may be most likely to need to use it. This class comes with an ASHI certification and ASHI e-textbook as well.

Upon completion, students will earn a two year certification from American Safety & Health Institute.

Learn more about our BLS course here.

Bloodborne Pathogens

In this course, students will learn about the common bloodborne pathogens, how to prevent exposure, and what to do in case of exposure.

OSHA requires annual bloodborne pathogens training for “employees with exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).”

In SC, annual BBP training is required for all child-care professionals.
