In this course, you will learn how to provide CRR, respond to First Aid emergences, and use an AED. This is similar to our CPR and First Aid Course but includes AED and other higher-level topics.
Our course meets Bright From the Start requirements in Georgia and Endeavors guidelines in South Carolina. Tailored to meet the needs of Direct Support Professionals. Training meets the requirements for DDHDD, DSS, NAEYC, Foster Care Parents, and more.
How to Get CPR, First Aid, & AED Certified

Pick Your Format
We offer in-person and blended online CPR, First Aid, and AED training. You can join a class or host the class and we will come to your facility if you have a group.

Sign Up or Book
Sign up for the course or book a date to host your training. Then take the course and/or have your staff take the course. For online CPR, a skills check in also required.

Attend & Get Certified
Attend the training and get the skills, knowledge, and the certificate you need for your job and to be prepared for emergencies you may face.
Who Needs AED Certification?
If you have an AED on-site, any “expected users” are required to have AED Certification. AED certification is also required for fitness professionals and is required by DBHDD for those who serve individuals with special needs.
Why Use an AED?
Using an AED for someone in cardiac arrest in the first few minutes will triple the chance of recovery. Having hands-on experiences is vital.
CPR, First Aid, and AED Training Formats
Onsite training
We come to your facility and train your staff at your convenience. You will receive hands-on training with CPR manikins and AED trainers.
In metro Atlanta or Augusta, we do ask for a minimum of 8 during the week and 12 on Saturday. For other areas view our minimum page to learn more.
Participants earn a 2 year CPR, First Aid, AED ASHI Certification. This meets Bright From the Start requirements in Georgia and Endeavors guidelines in South Carolina. Training meets the requirements for DDHDD, DSS, NAEYC, Foster Care Parents, and more.
$40 a person
Blended Online Training
Blended online training allows you to do your training from the comfort of your home at your own pace. This also works great if you do not have enough for the minimum.
- Classes are done at your own pace through the ASHI portal.
- After completing the online class, they will receive a 45-day certificate until participants complete a hands-on skills check.
- The hands-on portion is done in small groups and takes about 15 minutes per group.
- Participants earn a 2 year CPR & First Aid certification after skills check. This meets Bright From the Start requirements in Georgia and South Carolina Endeavors guidelines. As well as the requirements for DDHDD, DSS, NAEYC, Foster Care Parents, and more.
$40 a person. No minimum is required.
What is a Skills Check?
For blended online CPR, you must also have hands on practice. This in-person portion is called a skills check. This is done after completing your online training. Watch the video to see what these look like. We have locations across Georgia and South Carolina.
This is almost always done outside.
If you would like to host an on-site skills check, there is a $75 fee (total); this is waived if you have 6 or more people. You can request one here.

Is CPR and First Aid Training Required for Child and Senior Care Professionals in Georgia and South Carolina?
Yes, CPR and First Aid training and certification are required for both child care and senior care professionals in Georgia by the Bright From the Start and the Department of Community Health. Then in South Carolina, child cares are required by Endeavors but senior livings are sometimes not required in South Carolina. However, it is always best to be trained, even if it isn’t required.
While CPR and First Aid is required, AED isn’t unless you have an AED on site.
What is AED Training?
AED training is a portion of our training that focuses on teaching you about AEDs, both in theory and in practice. You will learn about AEDs, then watch our team demonstrate, and then get hands on practice with an AED trainer. You will be able to ask questions, so you can be fully confident you know how to use an AED if the situation were to arise.
Our AED courses are done in conjunction with CPR and First Aid training, which will help you be prepared for most emergencies you may face. The AED training is just one of the 3 parts.
Is Online CPR, First Aid, AED Training Okay?
In short, the answer is “Yes, blended training meets the requirements for those in Georgia”, but there are a few things to note. To meet the requirements for most jobs, including childcare and elder care professionals, it must be a blended training. Blended training means that there is an online instruction potion AND a hands on portion with an instructor. The online portion can be either at your own pace or live via a web conferencing software like Zoom.
Can You Handle Large Groups
Yes, while our average class is around 15 students. We regularly teach groups of 50 or even 100 or more. When we have large groups like this, we bring extra instructors and mannequins to take care of your group well. Book a class here.
What is CPR, First Aid, AED Training Like?
This is very similar to our basic CPR and First Aid class, but we teach more about how to use an AED and participants get hands on practice with the device.
It is around 3 hour course where you will learn how to how to perform CPR, respond to for choking, and respond to many first aid emergencies. You will get hands on experience with CPR and choking maneuvers to make sure you feel confident with the skills taught.
All of our trainings are fun and interactive, helping participants learn and have fun doing it. At First Response, we believe people learn best when they are relaxed. Our engaging instructors strive to make the class informative and relevant for each unique audience. Practice makes perfect, so we have lots of manikins available to make sure everyone has adequate practice time to feel confident with the skills learned.
Do I Need BLS or CPR / First Aid?
Unless you are a health care professional, then you will need CPR and First Aid because BLS does NOT include first aid, which is required for most jobs including child care and elder care.
Is CPR Training Important?
Yes, it is very important. Learning CPR is important because about 356,000 people have a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital each year inside the United States, and close to 90% of them die. This means around 320,400 don’t survive cardiac arrest due to a lack of CPR and the use of an AED.
