CPR, First Aid, and AED Classes for Church Staff

Having church staff trained in CPR, First Aid, and AED can provide the church with a huge benefit in the event of an emergency. We partner with churches across Georgia and South Carolina to ensure that church staff members have the essential knowledge and training necessary for responding to medical emergencies. Working in a church is a great calling where you care primarily spirituality for your members, but knowing how to care for them physically is important as well.

We offer both in person classes held at your church, and online blended options which are great if you have a smaller group or want the added convenience of doing it online.

With over 23 years of experience, First Response knows how to tailor the training for your group.

Does Your Church Have an AED On-Site?

Getting certified in both CPR and First Aid is a great way for church staff to be prepared should an emergency arise. Knowing that many churches are equipped with AEDs, it’s especially important that those “expected users” receive hands on training so they can act quickly if needed. With this extra knowledge, you will have peace of mind knowing how best to respond in any situation.

If you have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on-site, Georgia and South Carolina laws require that all “expected users” of the AED should have nationally accredited training on its use. Each church should have an AED Action Plan that defines who exactly is expected to respond in an emergency. Some churches designate staff members, a medical response team, or ushers/greeters as expected users.

Also, if your church has a preschool or after-school program, then they fall under the expectation of a childcare and must have CPR/First Aid and Fire Safety Training.

Who Else Should Be Trained?

  • Weekday Preschool – Many weekday preschools fall under the Bright from the Start requirements for CPR and First Aid Training.
  • Preschool Volunteers / Nursery Workers – Preschool staff are truly wonderful for providing care, guidance and love to our children – even if only for a short time during service. It’s important to ensure they know how best to respond should an accident occur so no child is ever left in need of help or reassurance!
  • Youth Leaders – Youth leaders take on a special responsibility as they watch over the safety of school-aged students during longer events, like camps and retreats. We owe them our gratitude for preparing well in order to ensure these young people have a safe and enjoyable experience!
  • Youth – It’s inspiring to see youth taking the initiative and showing dedication by seeking out opportunities for babysitting training. We are so grateful for their enthusiasm!
  • Senior Ministry – Let’s give thanks for our precious seniors, who need extra care and attention. Ensure your Seniors Pastors are equipped to respond quickly in the case of falls or injuries—their safety is so important!

CPR and First Aid Certification Options

CPR and First Aid training

Onsite training

We come to your Church and train your staff at your convenience.

In metro Atlanta or Augusta, we do ask for a minimum of 8 during the week and 12 on Saturday. For other areas, view our minimum page to learn more.

We offer two CPR certification options.

If you have an AED on site, you will need the CPR, First Aid, and AED training, which cost $40 per person.

If you do not have an AED on site, the basic CPR and First Aid course will provide you with everything you need to be prepared for an emergency minus the hands on training with the AED. This option cost $25 per person.

Certifications are good for 2 years from the date of the class.

Blended Online Training

We also offer online blended options which are great if you have a smaller group and don’t have enough for the minimum or want the added convenience of doing it online.

There are online options just like onsite training. CPR and First Aid are online in a Live Zoom Training with an Instructor, and the CPR, First Aid, and AED online class is done at your own pace individually.

The cost is the same breakdown as onsite. $25 for CPR and First Aid and $40 for CPR, First Aid, and AED.

After completing either online class, the participant will receive a 45-day certificate until participants complete a hands-on skills check.

The hands-on portion is done in small groups and takes about 15 minutes per group. These can either be hosted at your facility or participants can go to skills checks we host at other facilities.

Skills Checks

After completing your online training, you will need to do an in-person CPR skills check. We have locations across Georgia and South Carolina.

This is usually done outside in small, socially distanced groups.

If you would like to host an on-site skills check, there is a $50 fee (total); this is waived if you have 6 or more people. You can request one here

Does Church Staff Need Fire Safety Certification?

This is not required unless you have a church preschool, which again falls under the requirements of a childcare facility. Although not required, we also offer Fire Safety training online and in person. Which is a great way to be prepared in the event of a fire.

In this course, you will learn about fire prevention, how to evacuate if a fire does happen, how to teach about fire safety to kids and families, and more.

How to Get Fire Safety Certified

Fire Safety Class

Fire Safety Online Class

Online Training

The online Fire Safety option is the same great class but done from the convenience of your home via Zoom, and unlike the CPR class, no skills check is required. So once you finish the zoom class, that is the end of the training.

  • They will complete an online test to show their knowledge.
  • Will be sent certificate and places in the state system.
  • This is an instructor-led Fire Safety course that is held via Zoom.
